Åre’s new mountain resort hotel lauded for its design

Copperhill Mountain Lodge has been awarded membership in Design Hotels and is thereby one of 170 hand-picked hotels in the world, and the only mountain resort hotel in Scandinavia, to receive this honour.

Design Hotels is an international group of hotels that fulfil a number of criteria, such as a high standard of service, personality, architecture and cutting edge design, as well as the utilisation of local influences and historic connection to place.

“I am incredibly proud. Copperhill Mountain Lodge is a genuine architectonic and design experience. The hotel is unique, with a location in the mountains where we allow modern design to blend with nature. Now we have the opportunity to increase visibility and market the hotel through an international partnership,” says Peter Nilsson, managing director at Copperhill Mountain Lodge.

Åre’s new mountain resort hotel opens on 8 December, in good time for the ski season. Apart from design and architecture the hotel can boast ski-in ski-out facilities, its own lift and helipad and a spa with a Sami theme.

The hotel was created by American Peter Bohlin, who has Swedish ancestry. He is one of the world’s foremost architects and is known for creating Bill Gates’ private home and Apple’s Showcase stores in London, New York and Tokyo. The history of Åre’s grand copper mining era has inspired the hotel’s design. An interior design firm, Koncept, have styled the 112 rooms and suites using well-judged combinations, from Italy’s Smeg to Tom Dixon and Jämtland’s county museum.
